MICHAEL YOUNG

Michael “Micky” Young is an English professional rugby union player known for his career as a scrum-half.

Born on 31 December 1988, in Hartlepool, England, Michael began his professional career with Newcastle Falcons in 2007, before going on to play for several prominent clubs, showcasing his agility, quick decision-making, and playmaking abilities.

Young has also represented England at the international level, contributing to the national team's successes.

  • Early Years

    West Hartlepool and Durham School

    Young started at West Hartlepool Junior Academy, also playing for Durham School.

  • 2008 - 2011

    Newcastle Falcons

    Michael made his senior debut with the Newcastle Falcons in 2008, making 79 appereances across three full seasons.

  • 2011 - 2013

    Leicester Tigers

    Michael played for the Leicester Tigers for two seasons, making a total of 20 appereances. During this time, the team won the Anglo-Welsh Cup (2012) and the Premiership (2013).

  • 2013 - 2015

    Bath

    Young joined Bath Rugby in the summer of 2013 making 34 appereances over two seasons.

  • 2015 - 2023

    Newcastle Falcons

    In February 2015, Michael made his return to Newcastle Falcons, where he went on to make a further 122 appeareances during his seven-year long second stitnt with them, for a total of 201 appereances throughout his history with the club.

  • 2023-2024

    Toulon and Gloucester

    In 2023, Michael joined French union club Toulonnais as a World Cup Joker, at the end of which, Young joined Gloucester as injury cover.

Playing for

ENGLAND

Alongside his club career, Michael has played three campaigns for the England Saxons, scoring a try on his debut against the USA in the Churchill Cup.

He has also played with the England Sevens team, scoring the winning try against New Zealand in the IRB Sevens in 2008/09.
